DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Drake beat Creighton 75-65 last night in Des Moines to push its winning streak to 18 games.
Josh Young tied a career-high with 24 points to lead the 16th-ranked Bulldogs (19-1, 10-0 Missouri Valley Conference), who finished the game on a 10-0 run.
Jonathan Cox added 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Creighton (14-6, 5-5), which has lost three straight, was led by Booker Woodfox's 19 points.
Drake led much of the first half and squandered an eight-point lead early in the second half.
The lead changed hands six times after halftime before Drake pulled it out down the stretch. Drake pushed its lead to 70-65 on two free throws by Cox and a 3 by Leonard Houston with 1:51 left .
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Keaton Grant made the winning free throw with 1.4 seconds left and Purdue held off Iowa 51-50 last night in West Lafayette.
Purdue got the ball with five seconds left and the score tied at 50. Grant took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the floor before he was fouled by Iowa's Tony Freeman. Grant made the first free throw, then intentionally missed the second because Iowa was out of timeouts. Purdue got the rebound and ran out the clock.
E'Twaun Moore led Purdue with 12 points and Scott Martin added 11 for the Boilermakers (16-5, 7-1 Big Ten). With six straight wins, Purdue is off to its best start since the 1997-98 season.
Justin Johnson led Iowa with 14 points, and Freeman added 13 for the Hawkeyes (10-12, 3-6).
Purdue shot just 41 percent, but made up for it by forcing 22 turnovers.
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) - Eric Coleman scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Northern Iowa beat Illinois State 69-61 last night in Cedar Falls.
Northern Iowa's biggest lead was six until closing the game on a 8-0 run. The game featured nine ties and eight lead changes.
Illinois State (15-6, 7-3 Missouri Valley Conference) stayed close early and trailed 35-34 at halftime, but failed to make a 3-pointer in the second half and finished 3-of-13 from beyond the arc.
Both teams traded runs after halftime, and the Redbirds trailed 63-61 after Boo Richardson's layup with 1:13 left.
Northern Iowa (13-8, 5-5) missed its next shot but got the ball back on Adam Viet's steal, which led to Jared Josten's fast-break layup and a 65-61 lead with 28 seconds left.
Adam Koch hit four free throws in the ensuing possessions to seal the win.
Dom Johnson led the Redbirds with 17 points.
MARSHALLTOWN --- Marshalltown Community College held a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 69-56 win over the NIACC women last night in Marshalltown. Madelyn Houser had 15 points to lead the Lady Trojans. NIACC drops to 6-13 for the season and will return to action on Saturday when they host Kirkwood.
