$93 million going to north-central Iowa wind farm
Breaking News WASHINGTON (AP) - Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin has announced $93,419,883 in federal funds will be going to a company to help develop a wind farm in Worth County. The money going to Barton Wind Farm comes through a section of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The program provides assistance to energy producers in place of tax credits that they may not be otherwise be able to utilize. Nationally, the development of additional wind farms has been sharply reduced this year because of the economic downturn. The federal program was put in place to allow cash-strapped companies to move forward with renewable energy projects. Harkin noted Tuesday the wind energy industry helps to create jobs and grow the state's economy, while at the same time lowering the cost of energy.

Controversy on bar closing, theft investigation underway
Breaking News CLEAR LAKE --- There’s some controversy surrounding the apparent closing of a Clear Lake bar the day after finishing a 14-day suspension of their liquor license for violating the state’s smoke-free air act law. We reported earlier that one of the owners of bar, Alan Slater, had turned in the liquor license for The Marina to city officials yesterday. Alan Slater tells us today that it was Neil Slater, who Alan says has nothing to do with the business, turned in the liquor license without Alan’s knowledge. Clear Lake police chief Greg Peterson tells KGLO News that Alan Slater has also filed a complaint to investigate missing property from the business, but could not comment any further since the investigation into the missing property was not completed at this time.
