"Ask the Mayor" examines "efficiency" plans by Mason City council
The Mason City City Council continues to be split on the concepts of how the city administrator should study ways to improve the efficiency of city services. The council, after Mayor Eric Bookmeyer broke a 3-3 tie, Tuesday night passed a simple motion that directs administrator Brent Trout to implement a culture of continuous improvement that does not allow termination of employees who effectively facilitate the efficiency of city operations. It also allows Trout to choose a “Lean Initiative” mechanism of his choice and take advantage of assistance offered by the city’s partners in the business and education community. While it seems that all six councilmembers do have the same goal of wanting to improve city services and at the same time save money, the underlying question by some inside and outside of city government is whether or not the council is micromanaging duties that are already assigned to Trout as part of his job description in city code.
As part of "Ask the Mayor" today, we let you listen back to Tuesday night's conversation between councilmembers. Click here to listen back to the program.
