LAKE MILLS --- The parent company of a Lake Mills manufacturer says it’s laying off 400 employees as part of a company restructuring plan. A press release from Cummins Filtration says the layoffs will start in November as they consolidate their North American filter assembly operations into a facility in San Luis Potosi Mexico over the next several months to keep business competitive in the region. Cummins officials say their entire filter assembly operations at Lake Mills will be moved to San Luis Potosi starting in November and ending in March of 2010, and they’re also considering moving operations from a Cookeville Tennessee plant as well, but a final decision will come in the near future. The company says about 110 jobs will remain at the Lake Mills plant as part of other operations. Cummins, formerly known as Fleetguard, is a leading worldwide designer and manufacturer of filtration products for heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment.
